Theme, graphics and soundtrack

Surprisingly, visually Booming Gems is absorbing. Thinking more of Han Solo or James T Kirk than about Jeff Bezos or Richard Branson, it seems that we are sitting in the driving seat of a spaceship. The spaceship in which we are travelling is moving through space but the still background does not give indication to this fact and deep space appears cold and dangerous with meteors and gas explosions coming directly at us as we play.

Then, the animation pops up with flashes and explosions once the reels start spinning, as well as a great charge of electricity from the spin button. There is much to watch because big wins are denoted by an enormous cascade of coins and revolving searchlights.

Just as things were going well, you suddenly hear the soundtrack. This is a strangely odd kind of retro electro-funk that has never been heard before in any sci-fi movie. You would have thought therefore that Dragoon Soft with its love for poor quality electronica would have embraced the borrowing side of things and gone full throttle Kraftwerk/Jean-Michel Jarre. It is entirely wrong and suggests a major lapse of judgement on their part, so we recommend muting it and having your own sound track playing.

How to play Booming Gems

1. Click the spin button or press the space bar to start playing using the current total bet value.

This game is not the best among Dragoon Soft’s products. It has great graphics but terrible audio and only one function. Although the rewards are pretty nice, there is no sense in wasting much time on a game that looks like something made at the last minute.
