Theme, graphics and soundtrack

The comedy soundtrack or music begins to play as soon as you start up this game, indicating that Farm Family is more about being slightly silly and having a little bit of fun. You cannot miss it, the xylophones, the trumpets and hillbilly harmonica are part of the entire piece. There is farm produce spinning past each icon on the board. When winning combinations appear on the screen they dissolve into spinning lights and fall into win counters. The highest wins are marked by an abrupt appearance of a round grunting pig emerging from under a barrel full of vegetables.

The background is perfectly cheerful but fast-moving clouds suggest that the windmill – yes, there’s actually a windmill – should be spinning faster.

It is all extremely stupid but it doesn’t hurt me at all; besides, it feels nice to see a Far East game maker stereotyping Western iconography instead of the opposite.

I have written this review without having any RTP details or variance. Dragoon Soft games seem to have an RTP that tends to be the average or better at about 96%, but I can only assume so.

How to play Farm Family

1. Click the spin button to start playing using the current total bet value. Press the stop button, which replaces the play button, to stop the reels mid-spin.
2. Select the main menu and settings to activate the space bar as an alternative to the spin button
3. Click the coins symbol to select a bet level from 0.01 to 30, which will be multiplied by the 25 paylines; alternatively, use the + and – buttons to change the bet level.
4. The auto spin function allows you to select spins from 100 to infinity. 
5. Click the main menu to the bottom left and then the settings cog to bring up various visual and speed of play settings. This is where you have the option to set the autoplay game to stop on a win of a specified minimum level and set maximum balance increase levels and balance decrease levels.
6. The running balance is displayed to the bottom left of the screen.
7. Click the lightning bolt for turbo spin; alternatively, access this in the settings menu.
8. All payouts run from left to right and only the highest win pays. Winning symbols are shuffled and the symbols above will drop to fill the vacant places.

Farm Family review: our verdict

Nothing in particular is wrong with this game. This game’s animation has some sort of goofy quality to it, and the gameplay is fairly direct, making it especially good for novices; however, there isn’t much happening here and even the free spins round does not give you an opportunity to switch settings. It feels as though it lacks a creative stage and since this is deliberately undramatic, you do miss the bonus game.
